Wix Studio Two React export: what it means for your website

Wix Studio Two can export your site as a React project and take it back. What Wix has said, what it hasn't, and what to check on your own site.

On 2 November, Wix announced Studio Two, and the line that matters most to a business owner sits near the end of the announcement. You can export your site as a standard React project, keep working on it in a tool like Cursor or Claude, then bring it back.

So can you take your Wix site with you? Partly. Wix says you can export a Studio Two site and deploy it outside Wix. It gives one reason for doing that, and it hasn't said how your CMS, bookings, or forms come along.

This post covers what Wix has said about Wix Studio Two React export and what it hasn't. It ends with what I'd check on your own site this week.

What does Wix Studio Two React export actually do?

It turns a Studio Two site into a standard React project that you can open in any code editor, then import back into Studio Two. Wix's announcement says you can keep working in "Claude, Codex, Cursor or any IDE, then bring it back."

It also works in the other direction. If a component isn't native to Studio Two, Wix says you can build it on an external platform and import it. There's no fixed component library holding you back.

Inside the editor, Wix has added a standard React code layer for custom components and logic, plus a browser-based Visual Studio Code environment. The design side is still a visual canvas with an AI agent called Aria 2.0.

Can you host a Wix Studio Two site outside Wix?

Yes, according to Wix, for an exported site. The announcement says an enterprise client that needs the site hosted in its own environment can export it and deploy it there. If you'd rather have Wix manage it, you can do that too.

Wix gives one reason to deploy outside Wix: an enterprise client that needs the site hosted in its own environment.

That's a change. Wix's help centre currently says a Wix site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers". I checked that page this week and didn't see Studio Two mentioned on it.

Wix hasn't said, in anything I've read, what happens to your CMS content, bookings, forms or store when the site lives somewhere else. Those all run on Wix today. Until Wix publishes the detail, I wouldn't plan a move off Wix hosting around this feature.

Is Studio Two React export the same as Wix Headless?

No, they look like different routes. With Wix Headless, you write the pages in code and Wix runs the back office through its APIs. Wix's development paths guide describes both a Wix-managed and a self-managed version. With Studio Two, you start from a visual design and can take the code out afterwards.

We moved our own site to Wix Headless in October. The rebuild ran from 19 to 28 October 2026. The first build scored 64 for mobile performance. Our write-up of how we rebuilt our own website on Wix Headless covers the full story.

Our first headless build scored 64 for mobile performance. The live homepage now scores 99, and we didn't cut a feature to get there.

The code wasn't the hard part. Old redirects fought the new pages, main pages ended up with two titles, and one release took the site to a 404 for 32 minutes. Expect the same list on any move from an editor to code.

Wix hasn't said whether an exported Studio Two site talks to Wix's CMS through the same APIs we used. That's the first question I'd put to Wix.

Who actually needs React export?

Agencies, developers and businesses with strict hosting rules. Most small businesses don't need it, and shouldn't change anything because of it.

The useful part for a small business is indirect. If a site can be exported, changing agency or developer gets easier. That's my reading, and Wix hasn't promised it.

Where I do expect it to matter is custom work. On Aldenham Residential, we built 30 development pages and 89 plot pages from three CMS collections on Wix Studio. A site like that lives in its CMS, so the CMS is the first thing I'd check before anyone deployed it elsewhere.

Does React export mean you own your website?

A site you can export is only worth something if the domain, content and accounts are already yours.

These are the five things I'd check this week, whichever editor you're on:

  1. Your domain is registered in your name, under your own login.

  2. Google Search Console and analytics sit in your account, not a former freelancer's.

  3. Your copy, photos and logo files are saved in one place outside the editor.

  4. You have a list of everything connected to the site: forms, bookings, payments, your CRM and apps.

  5. Any custom code has notes on who wrote it and what it does.

It's the same inventory I'd suggest before Studio Two reaches you. The longer version is in how to prepare your Wix site for Wix Studio 2.

When can you use Wix Studio Two?

Wix says Studio Two is rolling out to Wix Partners first, followed by a gradual rollout to all users. It hasn't given dates, and I haven't seen pricing. Wix also says existing Wix Studio sites remain supported.

Our Wix Studio 2 page explains how we build now so the move is small. If you're wondering whether any of this changes your plans, drop us a line.

Wix Studio Two React export questions

Can you export a Wix Studio Two site as React code?

Yes, according to Wix. Studio Two can export a site as a standard React project, which you can edit in tools like Cursor or Claude and then import back. Wix hasn't published detailed steps or limits yet, so check its documentation once Studio Two reaches you.

Can you host a Wix Studio Two site outside Wix?

Wix says yes. You can export the site and deploy it in your own environment, or let Wix manage it. Its announcement gives enterprise hosting as the example. It doesn't say what happens to CMS data, bookings or forms outside Wix, so don't assume they come along.

Is Wix Studio Two the same as Wix Studio 2?

Yes. Partners called the next Studio editor Studio 2 while it was in preview. Wix's official name for it is Studio Two.

Is Wix Studio Two available yet?

It's starting to roll out. Wix says Wix Partners come first, then a gradual rollout to all users. Wix hasn't given dates, so most business owners will see it later.

Will my existing Wix Studio site still work?

Wix says existing Wix Studio sites remain supported. It hasn't described how a site moves into Studio Two. Keep your CMS, code and apps tidy now, and wait for the details.

Do I need a developer to use the React export?

To edit the code, someone needs to be comfortable with React. The visual canvas stays for design work, so you can still change layouts without code. If you want the code route, talk to your agency before you commit.
