A client emailed me last Thursday with one line: "Should we wait for Wix Studio 2 before we touch the site?"

Short answer: no. But you should prepare for it. Wix Studio 2 is Wix's rebuilt professional editor, and the rollout is reported to be in its final stages as we head through September 2026. There's still no official launch date. What there is, is a clear direction of travel, and enough detail from partner previews to know what to get in order now.
Here's how I'd get a Wix site ready for it, whether you're on the classic Wix Editor, on Wix Studio today, or you've just built something in Wix Harmony.
Most sites don't need to wait. But they do need to check a few things.
What Wix Studio 2 actually is
Wix Studio 2 is a rebuilt version of the Wix Studio editor that brings visual design, AI assistance and custom code into one workspace. Existing Wix Studio sites are expected to carry forward, with migration tooling planned rather than a forced rebuild.
I wrote up my first reaction when Wix showed us Studio 2 back in July. Since then, partner previews have filled in the picture. The pieces that matter for a business owner are these:
Plan Mode: a structured starting point that pulls in your business details, audience, brand preferences and site structure before any design happens.
Aria 2.0: Wix's AI assistant working inside the editor as a design partner, generating pages, rewriting copy and adjusting layouts, with you making the final call.
Reusable AI skills: save an AI-assisted action once and reuse it across projects.
A redesigned, dark-mode-first editor with more direct on-canvas editing and fewer clicks for everyday tasks.
A shared underlying structure with Wix Harmony, which is why people expect Harmony sites to convert into Studio 2 sites without starting over.
Two caveats. Wix hasn't published a release date, and some of this comes from partner previews rather than official documentation. Treat the features as direction, not gospel, until you're clicking on them.
Studio 2 rewards sites that are already organised. It won't tidy up a mess for you.

Should you wait for Wix Studio 2 before changing your site?
No. Sites built on Wix Studio today are expected to move forward into Studio 2, so work you do now isn't wasted. Waiting months for an editor while your current site loses enquiries is the expensive option.
I've watched this pattern before with Editor X moving into Wix Studio. The businesses that did well weren't the ones who waited. They were the ones whose sites were clean, well-structured and easy to move when the tooling arrived.
The exception is if you were about to commission a full rebuild on the classic Wix Editor. I'd pause that and build on Wix Studio instead, because that's the platform Studio 2 grows out of.
If you're on the classic Wix Editor
A Wix Editor site can't be converted into a Studio site with a button. Moving to Studio means creating a Studio version of the site and rebuilding the pages, while your dashboard, contacts, orders and bookings stay exactly where they are.
That sounds worse than it is. The Studio version runs as a separate branch alongside your live site, so nothing goes offline while it's built. I covered the practical side in how to redesign a Wix site without downtime.
What to do now:
Audit your pages. Most Editor sites we inherit have 30 to 40 pages doing the job of 12. Cut before you move, not after.
Write down what each page is for. One job per page. If you can't name the job, the page probably shouldn't exist.
Collect your brand assets in one place: logo files, colours, fonts, photography. Plan Mode is designed to take exactly this kind of input.
Check what's connected to the site: forms, bookings, payments, CRM, third-party apps. List them. They're the things that break quietly in a move.
Get your domain, Google Search Console and analytics access sorted under your own login, not an old freelancer's.
A rebuild is only as good as the inventory you walk in with.

If you're already on Wix Studio
You're in the best position. Your site is expected to carry forward into Studio 2. The job now is to make it a clean, well-organised site rather than one held together with workarounds.
What to do now:
Tidy the CMS. Consistent collection names, no orphaned fields, no test items left in live collections.
Review custom code. Anything Velo-based should be commented and documented. If a developer wrote it two years ago and nobody knows what it does, find out now.
Standardise your design system inside the site: text styles, colour tokens, reusable sections. AI tools work far better against a consistent system than against fifty one-off overrides.
Remove unused apps. Every dormant app is one more thing to test after a migration.
Check responsive behaviour on real devices. Studio 2's canvas is expected to be more direct, but it can't fix layouts that were never planned for mobile.
At Vision Marketing we've started doing this on our own client sites this month. The most common finding isn't a technical problem. It's that nobody can explain why half the pages exist.
If you built on Wix Harmony
Harmony is reported to share its underlying site structure with Studio 2, which is why the expectation is that a Harmony site can convert into a Studio 2 site without a rebuild. That makes Harmony a reasonable starting point for a small business that may want professional help later. I compared the two in Wix Harmony vs Wix Studio if you're weighing them up.
What to do now:
Keep your brief. The prompts and answers you gave Harmony are the seed of the Plan Mode brief you'll want later.
Don't fight the structure. Harmony sites that stay close to their generated structure will convert more cleanly than ones with heavy manual tweaks layered on top.
Sort your content. Real photos, real copy, real service descriptions. AI-generated placeholder text moving between editors is still placeholder text.
The one thing every Wix site should do before Studio 2
Write the brief. Plan Mode is built to turn business details, audience, brand and structure into a plan before design starts. If that information exists in one document today, you'll walk into Studio 2 with a head start. If it exists in your head, you'll be starting from scratch inside a new editor.
The brief I'd write is short. Who the site is for. What they need to believe before they'll get in touch. The three to five pages that do the real work. The proof you've got: reviews, case studies, accreditations. And the one action you want a visitor to take.
The editor is changing. The reason people hire you isn't.
The editor is changing. The reason people hire you isn't.
While you're at it, check how your site shows up in AI search. Wix's AI Visibility Overview will tell you whether ChatGPT and Google's AI answers already mention you. A migration is the natural moment to fix the gaps.
How Vision Marketing is handling it
We're a Wix Studio Partner based in Hampshire, and Studio 2 is the biggest change to our daily tools since Editor X was retired. Our approach is simple: every client site gets a pre-Studio 2 audit this autumn covering pages, CMS, code, apps and access. Nothing gets rebuilt for the sake of it. Sites that are clean get a note saying so. Sites that aren't get a short list of what to fix before the new editor lands.
If you'd like that audit on your own site, drop us a line. It's a conversation, not a sales pitch, and I'll tell you honestly if there's nothing to do.

What is Wix Studio 2?
Wix Studio 2 is a rebuilt version of the Wix Studio editor that brings visual design, AI assistance (Aria 2.0), a new Plan Mode and custom code together in one workspace. It's aimed at agencies and professionals, and it's reported to share its underlying site structure with Wix Harmony.
When is Wix Studio 2 being released?
Wix hasn't announced an official release date. Partner previews have described the rollout as reaching its final stages in late summer and early autumn 2026. Treat any specific date you read as an estimate.
Will my existing Wix Studio site need to be rebuilt for Studio 2?
No, that's not the expectation. Existing Wix Studio sites are expected to carry forward, with migration tooling planned. Keeping your site clean and well-organised now is the best preparation.
Can I move a classic Wix Editor site into Wix Studio 2?
Not with a single click. A Wix Editor site can't be converted directly into a Studio site. You create a Studio version and rebuild the pages, while your dashboard data, contacts and orders stay in place. The live site stays online throughout.
Should I build on Wix Harmony or Wix Studio if Studio 2 is coming?
If you're a small business doing it yourself, Harmony is a reasonable start and is expected to convert into Studio 2. If you're working with an agency or need CMS, custom code or a design system, build on Wix Studio now. Either way, don't wait for Studio 2 to start.
