What headless means
Wix Headless splits a website in two. Wix keeps running the back office: the dashboard, the CMS, your store, bookings, members, forms, payments and emails. The pages people see are written in code and talk to Wix through its APIs. We write ours in Astro.
We build on Wix-managed hosting, so Wix hosts the coded site too. With Astro, Wix serves each main page's title, description, social tags, robots.txt and sitemap from the SEO settings in your dashboard. So the Wix CMS works as a headless CMS, and you keep the SEO tools you know. You get full control of design and speed without losing the business side.
It's not for every site. Your team can't move a section in a visual editor, so layout changes come to us. If that's a deal-breaker, Wix Studio is the better choice, and we'll say so.

Yes, if it's built properly. With Astro on Wix hosting, Wix serves the SEO tags, sitemap and robots.txt for main pages from your dashboard settings. Blog posts, products and CMS pages need their SEO wired in code, and we do that on every route. We check the live HTML before launch.

Yes, if it has a connected custom domain. Wix lets us build the new front end on a preview while your current site stays live, then switch when it's ready. Your store, bookings and other business data keep running, and you can switch back. Pages that only existed on the old site stop working after the switch, so we set up a 301 redirect for every old URL. See Redesign and migration.
Yes. Payments never go through our code. Every purchase, plan sale and paid booking finishes on Wix's own hosted checkout, and the order lands in your dashboard as usual.
