Wix Harmony vs Wix Studio: which should your business build on?

Three clients asked me the same question last month: "Should we rebuild on Wix Harmony?"

Short answer first: Wix Harmony vs Wix Studio isn't a fair fight — they're built for different people. Harmony is Wix's new AI editor for owners who want a site live fast. Studio is the professional platform agencies like Vision Marketing build on. Pick based on where your business is going, not on which demo looks cleverer.

Here's the longer answer, from someone who builds on Wix every working day.

What is Wix Harmony?

Wix Harmony is the AI-powered editor Wix launched in January 2026. You describe what you want in plain language, an AI agent called Aria builds and edits the site, and you can still drag things around manually.

It's genuinely impressive. I've tested it. You can go from a prompt to a presentable site in an afternoon, with pages, business tools and content wired in as you go.

Harmony doesn't replace web designers. It replaces bad first drafts.

For a sole trader who needs a simple site this week, that's real value. No argument from me.

What is Wix Studio — and what's Studio 2?

Wix Studio is the professional platform Wix built for agencies and freelancers. Responsive grid layouts, custom CSS, Velo code, multi-site workspaces, proper CMS. It's what we use for every Vision Marketing client build.

And it's about to get better. Wix has previewed Wix Studio 2 — a new editor rebuilt from the ground up, with AI that works as an assistant rather than a decision-maker. You can hand it a section to build, or ignore it entirely. Control stays with the designer.

That distinction matters. Harmony leads with AI. Studio leads with control, and adds AI where it helps. We covered what we saw in the Studio 2 preview last week — it's worth a read if you're weighing up where Wix is heading.

The trap nobody mentions: you can't migrate from Harmony to Studio

This is the bit most comparison articles bury, so I'll say it plainly: if you build on Harmony and outgrow it, you can't transfer the site to Wix Studio. You start again from scratch.

Harmony sites run on a different architecture. No Velo. Limited CMS. If your business grows to the point where you need custom functionality, dynamic pages, or integrations Harmony doesn't support — and growing businesses usually do — the site gets rebuilt, not upgraded.

The cheapest website is the one you only have to build once.

I've spent ten years rebuilding sites people outgrew. The pattern is always the same: the quick option costs more in year two than the right option would have cost in year one.

Who should actually use Wix Harmony

Harmony is the right call if all of these are true:

• You're a very small or brand-new business

• You need a simple brochure site or landing page

• You have more time than budget

• You're comfortable the site may be a stepping stone, not the destination

That's a real audience, and Harmony serves it well. If that's you, use it — and come back when you're ready for the next stage.

Who should build on Wix Studio

Studio is the right call if your website is supposed to do something: generate enquiries, rank on Google, hold a CMS full of projects or products, integrate with your booking or CRM system, or represent a brand you've invested in.

Every serious build we've done — from care providers to escape rooms to trades firms — needed something Harmony can't do. Custom quote forms. Dynamic case-study pages. Structured data for local SEO. Bilingual content. That's Studio territory. Our rendering company SEO case study is a good example — none of that structure was possible without full platform control.

AI can build you a website. It can't build you a website strategy.

What this means for SEO and AI search

Here's the part I find most interesting, and it's the reason this choice matters more in 2026 than it would have three years ago.

Search is splitting. Google still matters, but AI assistants — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews — now answer a growing share of the questions your customers ask. Research this year suggests the overlap between top Google results and AI-cited sources has collapsed from around 70% to under 20%. Getting cited by AI is a different game from ranking.

Winning that game takes structure: clean heading hierarchy, FAQ schema, extractable answers, named entities, fast pages. That's precisely the kind of technical control Harmony trades away for simplicity — and precisely what Studio gives a professional full access to.

Your next customer might never see a search results page. Build for the answer, not just the ranking.

A DIY Harmony site can look lovely and still be invisible where buying decisions now happen. The visible bits of a website are the smaller half of the job — the same reason we argue your website shouldn't need a developer every time you want to publish: the platform underneath decides what you can do on top.

How to decide, in one minute

Ask yourself two questions.

Is the website a tool or an asset? A tool just needs to exist — Harmony's fine. An asset needs to compound — enquiries, rankings, authority. That's Studio, and realistically, that's Studio with a professional behind it.

Will the business look different in two years? If yes, build on the platform that grows with you. The Harmony-to-Studio migration path doesn't exist, and I don't expect that to change soon.
